The Masterclass in detail

What you'll learn

Across the series, you will:

  • Understand how generative models actually work: how a model learns, how it generates, and what that means for your craft.
  • Build a strong, practical foundation in AI ethics and licensing, so you can use these tools responsibly in production.
  • Install and run ComfyUI on your own machine, and become comfortable with its node-based workflow logic.
  • Generate, edit, and control images with state-of-the-art open models, from prompt writing to precise edits and upscaling.
  • Generate and control video: text-to-video, image-to-video, and keyframe control with current open video models.
  • Leave each session with the workflows and course materials you built, ready to reuse and adapt.

How the series works

The Masterclass is a series of standalone live sessions, delivered over Google Meet. Each session is 4 hours, hands-on, and recorded.

Hands-on, follow-along

  • You work along with the instructor on your own machine. You install, you build, you generate. Short breaks and Q&A segments keep the pace sustainable.
  • Each session takes a maximum of 12 participants, so the instructor can reach everyone during the build.
  • Every session is recorded. Enrollees get the recording and the course materials, so you can review and rebuild at your own pace.

Standalone sessions with prerequisites

  • Part 1 needs no prior setup: installation is part of the session. Parts 2 and 3 expect a working ComfyUI, and Part 3 also expects image generation fundamentals.
  • Missed a part you need? You can buy the recording and course materials of a past session to catch up before joining a later one.

Optional: 45-minute 1-on-1 mentoring session

  • The Standard package adds a personalized 1-on-1 mentoring session. After you practice, this is your chance to get personal guidance and troubleshoot your specific workflow, whether it relates to the Masterclass or to your own AI and VFX projects.

The parts

Three parts are announced. Each is a standalone 4-hour live session on the last Monday of the month, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Toronto time (ET).

Part 1: Foundations. Monday, September 28th, 2026.
Where generative AI comes from, how a model learns and generates, and what that means for film and VFX. The ethics and legal landscape: licenses, risks, and responsible use in production. Then the 2026 tooling landscape, why ComfyUI, and a guided installation on your machine, ending with your first generated image. No prerequisites.

Part 2: Image generation. Monday, October 26th, 2026.
Prompt writing that works, image generation fundamentals, precise image editing, control techniques, and upscaling with current open models. Prerequisite: a working ComfyUI (from Part 1 live or its recording, or your own install).

Part 3: Video generation. Monday, November 30th, 2026.
Text-to-video, image-to-video, first-and-last-frame control, and practical video workflows with current open video models. Prerequisites: a working ComfyUI and image generation fundamentals (Parts 1 and 2, live or recordings, or equivalent experience).

About your instructor

Adrien Toupet
Adrien Toupet Founding CEO, AInVFX. Former Head of Effects at Wētā FX.

Hello, Bonjour, Kia ora,

I'm a French New Zealander living in Canada. I'm the former Head of Effects at Wētā FX and Houdini teacher at Fx Machina. I hold six AWS certifications, including Machine Learning Engineer and Machine Learning Specialty. I have worked on over 30 projects for the TV and Film industry since the early 2000s, including the Avatar series, Game of Thrones, and Terminator (see my IMDB profile). I've empowered many artists going from XSI/Maya to Houdini. Today, I'm enabling the AI transition.

I love teaching and witnessing that "aha" moment in people's eyes: the excitement of learning and growing. I'm not here to waste anyone's time, and I have plenty to share. Join me; it will be fun, I promise!

Tools & Technologies covered

The series focuses on open tools and state-of-the-art open models. Each session teaches the strongest current options at its date, so the exact lineup evolves. As of this writing, the stack includes:

Core platform:

  • ComfyUI: the hub for open generative AI, with a node-based interface for building custom workflows

Image (Part 2):

  • Z-Image Turbo: fast, high-quality image generation
  • Qwen Image Edit: precise, instruction-based image editing
  • SeedVR2: enhancement and upscaling

Video (Part 3):

  • LTX 2.5: current open video generation, from text-to-video to keyframe control

When a stronger open model ships before a session, we teach that instead. The fundamentals you learn transfer across models.

Why choose this Masterclass?

  • Hands-on from minute one: you build every workflow yourself, live, with the instructor. You leave with working files, not just notes.
  • Industry-designed: created by VFX veterans who understand production needs and busy schedules.
  • Refreshed before every delivery: models, workflows, and content follow the state of the art, and Part 1 puts a major focus on ethics and licensing.
  • A clear progression: foundations and ethics, then image, then video. Each part stands alone, and together they form one path.
  • Ethical approach: open models first, licenses explained, responsible use in production. Read our statement of AI ethics.
  • Recorded: enrollees get the session recording and all course materials.
  • Personal support available: optional 1-on-1 mentoring in English or French.
  • A path onward: past Masterclass purchases earn a credit toward our Bootcamp (see FAQ below).

What our alumni say

Hear from professionals who've taken the masterclass

AInVFX delivers an exceptional learning experience. The masterclass was not only highly informative but also well-structured and thoroughly engaging. As always, when Adrien is behind it, the quality, clarity, and depth of insight are second to none. Highly recommended!

— Vincent, Senior Animator

The most valuable part of this bundle was the mentoring session as we were able to really hone in on areas I wanted to learn about this emerging technology and Adrien had prepped some very specific workflows and info for me. Overall excellent learning experience.

— Jayson, Unreal TD

I would recommend Adrien's masterclass to anyone starting their journey in generative AI. Furthermore, his mentoring sessions provide targeted and invaluable insights that I couldn't find anywhere else.

Frequently asked questions

Discounts, referrals & Bootcamp credit

Three ways to save:

  • Returning customer discount: every full-price purchase earns you 50% off one future booking of a Masterclass session, a mentoring session, or a session recording. A discounted booking does not earn a new discount. Use the discount within 12 months of the purchase that earned it. The Bootcamp is excluded.
  • Referral reward: once you have paid in full for any item, each person you refer who completes at least one paid purchase earns you one free item of your choice: a session recording, a 45-minute mentoring session, or a Masterclass session (Basic). Rewards stack, one reward per person referred. Use each reward within 12 months of earning it. The Bootcamp is never a reward.
  • Bootcamp bridge credit: the fee of one Masterclass, mentoring, or recording purchase made in the 12 months before you enroll in the Bootcamp is credited toward your Bootcamp seat (one credit per enrollee, up to 499 USD). Your Masterclass is a risk-free first step.

Is this Masterclass right for you?

This Masterclass is ideal for:

  • VFX artists and creative professionals who want to integrate AI into their workflows
  • Filmmakers and content creators exploring new production possibilities
  • Studio technical directors evaluating AI integration strategies
  • Anyone curious about the cutting edge of visual storytelling technology who wants to learn by doing

This Masterclass is not the right fit if:

  • You are not open to change. You don't need to be convinced that AI belongs in the industry, but you do need curiosity and an open mind.
  • You want a watch-only experience. The sessions are hands-on. You can attend without following along, but you'll get the most value by building with us.
  • You do not like working with new tools and workflows. The AI ecosystem moves fast. The rules are not set in stone yet; it can feel destabilizing at first, and it's also where the opportunities are.

FAQ - Content

Why a series of standalone 4-hour sessions?

VFX and production professionals are busy. Four focused hours on one topic is enough to go deep and leave with working skills, without eating a full week. The series structure lets you build the complete journey one month at a time, or pick only the parts you need.

What level of experience is required?

No prior AI or coding experience is needed. Part 1 starts from zero, including the installation. Basic familiarity with visual production concepts helps but is not required. Parts 2 and 3 have prerequisites: a working ComfyUI for Part 2, plus image generation fundamentals for Part 3. The recording of an earlier part covers a missing prerequisite.

What tools and models will I learn, and how current are they?

ComfyUI is the core platform throughout. Every session is refreshed before delivery: the models, the workflows, and the content itself follow the state of the art at that date. As of this writing, the lineup includes Z-Image Turbo and Qwen Image Edit for images, SeedVR2 for enhancement, and LTX 2.5 for video; see Tools & Technologies above for the current list. The fundamentals transfer: when models change, your skills carry over.

Will I be creating my own AI-generated content during the class?

Yes. The sessions are hands-on and follow-along: you install, build, and generate on your own machine during class. You keep the workflows and course materials, and the recording lets you rebuild anything at your own pace.

What about concerns regarding closed-source models, deepfakes, and copyright?

Our approach is ethically driven and focuses on open AI models. Part 1 dedicates a major block to ethics, licenses, and the legal landscape, and these threads run through the whole series. The focus is on using AI to enhance your own work, not to appropriate someone else's.

I want to go further than the Masterclass. What's next?

The AInVFX Bootcamp: 60 hours over 10 weeks, project based, where you build your own production case with expert guidance, a peer cohort, and jury reviews. The Masterclass series is the ideal first step, and one Masterclass-line purchase from the last 12 months is creditable toward a Bootcamp seat, up to 499 USD. Discover the Bootcamp.

FAQ - Logistics

What is the format of each session?

A 4-hour live session in English over Google Meet, hands-on and follow-along: you build the workflows on your own machine as the instructor builds them. Short breaks and Q&A segments are built in. Every session is recorded, and enrollees receive the recording and the course materials. 1-on-1 mentoring is available in English and French.

What equipment do I need to follow along?

To do the hands-on work, you need a computer with an NVIDIA GPU with at least 16 GB of VRAM. If your machine doesn't meet that spec, you can still attend and watch, rent a cloud GPU, or follow along on other hardware, but we cannot guarantee support or results outside the stated spec.

Do I need to install anything before the class?

Before Part 1, no software install is needed: the guided installation is part of the session. Parts 2 and 3 expect a working ComfyUI before you join.

Will I get the recording, and what if I miss the live session?

Yes. Every session is recorded, and enrollees get the recording and course materials to review at their own pace, available for at least 12 months. If you miss part or all of the live session, the recording covers you. Anyone can also purchase a past session's recording and materials separately (see the Recording option in Pricing).

Do you offer a certificate of completion?

Yes, for live attendees of a session. Recording buyers and no-shows do not receive a certificate, because we can only vouch for attendance we witnessed.

What timezone are the sessions in?

Sessions anchor to Toronto time (ET), 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The dates section above shows each session across timezones, including around the October clock changes in Europe and North America.

FAQ - Pricing & enrollment

What payment options do you offer and is the process secure?

We've partnered with Stripe, a trusted, reliable payment platform used by millions of companies worldwide. We accept all major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, JCB, and China UnionPay, as well as digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Cancel 14 days or more before the session date for a full refund. Each session needs enough enrollments to run; if we ever cancel a session, we tell you at least one week before, and you choose between a full refund and a transfer to the next session. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.

What does the Recording option include?

The recording of a past session plus its course materials, for 199 USD. It's a standalone purchase: no live attendance needed, no obligation to join anything else. It's also how you cover a missing prerequisite before joining Part 2 or Part 3. Recording purchases are personal, non-refundable once delivered, and do not include a certificate.

Tell me about discounts, referrals, and group bookings.

Every full-price purchase earns you 50% off one future Masterclass, mentoring, or recording booking; a discounted booking does not earn a new discount, and the discount does not apply to the Bootcamp. Once you have paid in full for any item, each person you refer who completes at least one paid purchase earns you one free item of your choice: a recording, a mentoring session, or a Masterclass session (Basic). Rewards stack, one reward per person referred. Discounts and rewards must be used within 12 months of being earned. One past Masterclass purchase from the last 12 months is creditable toward a Bootcamp seat, up to 499 USD. For teams, our Enterprise package covers group bookings: contact us to discuss your needs.

How does the 1-on-1 mentoring work?

After enrollment, we reach out to schedule your session at a time that works for you. The Standard package includes one mentoring session; if you need more, you can book standalone sessions at any time.
